Obituary for Janice M. Stephenson
JANICE M. STEPHENSON, 78, of DeWitt, IA, died Wednesday, August 8, 2018, at West Wing Place Nursing Home in DeWitt.

There will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation rites have been accorded. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. The Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is assisting the family. A memorial has been established to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Jan was born October 20, 1939, in Oquawka, IL, to Wesley Wayne and Mary A. (Gilland) Decker. She was educated in the Oquawka Grade Schools and was a graduate of Oquawka High School. Jan attended Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon, IL. She first married Donald Lee Lyon on November 16, 1954, in Burlington, IA. She later married Frederick E. “Fred” Stephenson, Jr. on January 5, 1962, in Wisconsin. He died February 26, 2004. Jan was a computer technician for Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, IA. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Morrison and the church’s Altar and Rosary Society. Jan enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, and crafts. She was also an avid John Wayne fan.

Survivors include three daughters, Renee (Buck) Brockway of Greenville, TX; Terri (David) Hansen of DeWitt, IA; and Mary (Mike) Cordua of Beaumont, CA; five sons, Jeff (Mary) Stephenson of DeWitt, IA; Bill (Kristi) Lyon of Janesville, WI; Steven (Sue) Kutcher of Brighton, CO; Kevin Stephenson of Blaine, WA; and Brian (Dianne) Stephenson of Rockton, IL; twenty-two grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and one sister, Tina Bergman of West Burlington, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred; three sons, Scott, Mark, and Robert Stephenson; one sister, Barbara Sage; three nephews, Timothy and Mike Sage, and Wayne McNitt.
