Obituary for Alfretta R. Meurs
ALFRETTA R. MEURS, 86, of Resthave Nursing Home in Morrison, IL, died Thursday, June 14, 2012 at the nursing home. Alfretta was born November 19, 1925, in Morrison, IL, to Jacob O. and Abbie A. (Peoples) Engelkens. She was educated in the Malvern Grade School of rural Whiteside County, and was a graduate of Morrison High School. She married Clarence Meurs on February 17, 1949 in Morrison. He died on November 22, 2008. Alfretta was a secretary at the Herman Nelson Ice Cooling Factory in Morrison. She then started working as a bookkeeper for the General Electric Credit Union in Morrison, from 1964 until her retirement in 1987. She also farmed with her husband, Clarence. She was a member of the Morrison Christian Reformed Church. Alfretta enjoyed sewing and was an accomplished seamstress. Survivors include two daughters, Cindy (Craig) Hoogheem of Morrison, IL and Gayle Meurs of Fairbanks, AK; two sons, Eugene Meurs of Fulton, IL and Alan (Shelley) Meurs of Morrison, IL; seven grandchildren, Michele (Jeff) Workman, Chris ( Amber) Hoogheem, Jarrod Meurs, Waylon (Sarah) Meurs, Kayla, Kendra and Kyle Meurs; seven great grandchildren; three sisters, Carrie Cartwright of Dixon, IL, Beverly (Ellis) Seavey of Sun Prairie, WI and Louella Engelkens of Sterling, IL; three brothers, Wayne H. Engelkens of Chadwick, IL, James E. (Gail) Engelkens of Tennessee, and Paul A. (Cindy) Engelkens of Morrison, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence "Colonel" Meurs; three sisters, Mary Lou Huggins, Elsie G. Pfister and Marjorie Ennenback; three brothers, Okko J. Engelkens, Jake Engelkens Jr., Merle E. Engelkens.
