ARLENE “BILL” DYKEMA, 91, of Fulton, IL, died Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at The Alverno in Clinton, IA.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Monday, January 30, 2023, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Bell, pastor at Journey Church in Clinton, IA, officiating. Interment will be at Fulton Township Cemetery in Fulton. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to MercyOne Hospice.
Arlene was born on May 30, 1931, in Fulton, IL, to John and Dena (Sikkema) DeWeerdt. She was educated in the Fulton Grade Schools and was a 1949 graduate of Fulton High School. She attended Scott Community College in Davenport, IA, and received her Licensed Practical Nurse degree. She married Robert D. Dykema on March 10, 1951, in Chicago, IL. He died June 14, 2013. Arlene was first employed as an operator for the Fulton Telephone company. She then worked at the former Mercy Hospital in Davenport, IA, as a Licensed Practical Nurse. After moving back to Fulton, she was employed by Mercy Medical Center in Clinton, IA, until retiring in 1995. Arlene was a hospice volunteer for Hospice of the Rock River Valley and Mercy Hospice and she also volunteered for The Pregnancy Center in Clinton, IA. She was a former member of Second Reformed Church and of Trinity Reformed Church in Fulton, IL, and recently was an associate member of Journey Church in Clinton, IA.
Survivors include one daughter, Cathy Baca of Fulton, IL; one son, Alan (Carla) Dykema of Urbana, MO; four grandchildren, Stephanie (Justin) Ohman, Elizabeth Ann (Justin) Leach, Ryan Dykema and Ashley (Joey Carpenter) Dykema; ten great-grandchildren, Lillian, Isaac, and Ruby Ohman, Ryker, Hudson, Lincoln, and Amorrette Leach, Jensen, Tenzly and Nayve Carpenter; four brothers, Robert (Carol) DeWeerdt of Georgetown, TX, Gene DeWeerdt of Mesa, AZ, Leon (Elsie) DeWeerdt of Mesa, AZ, and Larry “Joe” DeWeerdt of West Bend, WI.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; six sisters, Beverly Bonneur, Betty Merema, Eunice Norman, Lois DeWeerdt, Irma Swanson and Judy Dykstra; six brothers, Arthur, Vernon, Marvin, Arnold, Jim, and Russell DeWeerdt.
