Obituary for Carl R. Wierenga
CARL R. WIERENGA, 79, of Fulton, IL, died Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at Mercy Living Center North, Clinton, IA. Carl was born November 21, 1930 in Morrison, IL, to Claus and Tessie (Aggen) Wierenga. He was educated in the Fulton Grade Schools. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Carl married Anna Dykstra on February 17, 1950 in Fulton, IL. He farmed for several years in the Fulton area and was Road Commissioner for Fulton Township for 16 years. He most recently worked for Wendling Quarries in Fulton. Carl was a member of the Fulton American Legion Post #402 for 46 years. He enjoyed bowling and fishing and was an avid NASCAR fan. He enjoyed having coffee with his friends at Sister"s Caf" in Clinton, IA. Survivors include three daughters, Marcia (Terry) Nielsen of Clinton, IA; Diane (Patrick) Housenga of Thomson, IL; and Angela (John) Vander Eide of Fulton, IL; six grandchildren, Mike and Josh Nielsen, Tyler and Travis Housenga, Lynell (Jonathan) Breidenbach and Jason Vander Eide; one step grandson, Tim Nielsen; one great granddaughter, Averee Nielsen; two step great grandchildren, Kayla and Carson Nielsen; one sister, Mrs. Marie Francis of Lyndon, IL and one brother, Arlen Wierenga of Fulton, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Marjorie J. Bielema and Loretta Harter.
