Obituary for Chesley M. Sikkema
CHESLEY M. SIKKEMA, 98, of Sun City, AZ, formerly of Fulton, IL, died Thursday November 1, 2018 at her home.
There will be no visitation or funeral service. A graveside committal service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 10, 2018 at the Fulton Township Cemetery, with Rev. Scott Stephan officiating. The Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Chesley was born May 3, 1920, in Brandywine, MD, to Augustus Christopher Frederick and Aurrell (Brownwell) Wolfe. She was educated in the Brandywine, MD grade schools and was a graduate of the Surrattsville High School in Clinton, MD. On September 2, 1945 she married Robert V. Sikkema in Washington, D.C. He died on April 8, 1981. During WWII she worked in a naval gun factory in Washington, D.C. Chesley, along with her husband Robert, owned and operated Bob’s Certified Grocery Store in Fulton for 34 years. She was a former member of Second Reformed Church in Fulton, and is a current member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sun City. She was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary and the Fairway Art Association, and also volunteered at the Fulton Jr. High Library. Chesley was an accomplished painter. Memorials to Hospice of the Valley, Sun City, AZ and Second Reformed Church, Fulton, IL, have been established.
Survivors include one daughter, Gail (Bruce) Gary of Baldwin, MO; two grandchildren, Michelle and Michael Gary.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert; a brother, Harold Wolfe and a sister, Genevieve Jennings.
