Obituary for Clarence J. Shorty Wiersema
CLARENCE J. "SHORTY" WIERSEMA, 72, of Fulton, IL, died Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, IA. Shorty was born May 15, 1942, in Fulton, IL, to Wilfred and Alta (Wiersema) Wiersema. He was educated in the Fulton grade schools, and was a 1960 graduate of Fulton High School. He married Joyce E. Wilkens on October 12, 1962, in Erie, IL. Shorty was employed as a union carpenter for Carpenter"s Local #772. For the past 30 years he had been a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of Evangelical Free Church in Clinton, IA, and was a former member of the First Reformed Church in Fulton, where he served as elder, deacon, Sunday school teacher and youth leader. He was also a volunteer miller at the Fulton Windmill. Shorty greatly enjoyed attending his grandchildren"s school activities and sporting events. His hobbies included the restoration of his 1961 Pontiac and gardening. Survivors include his wife, Joyce; one daughter, Kristi Heun of Lena, IL; one son, Kevin (Cari) Wiersema of Byron Center, MI; six grandchildren, Kayla Heun, Kourtney Heun, Kolton Heun, Kati Wiersema, Codi Wiersema, and Collin Wiersema; one sister, Joetta Erickson of Fulton, IL; one brother, Irving Wiersema of Fulton, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents.
