Obituary for David M. Stone
DAVID M. STONE, 94, of Garden Plain, IL, died Sunday, July 28, 2019, at Resthave Home, in Morrison, IL.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Friday, August 2, 2019, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. His funeral service will be 1:00 PM Saturday, August 3, 2019, at Garden Plain Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow at Garden Plain Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Garden Plain Presbyterian Church.
David was born March 9, 1925, the son of Maynard P. and Alice (Heusinkveld) Stone. He graduated from Erie High School in 1943. He was a Korean War veteran in which he drove trucks for the 45th Infantry Division in Korea and Japan. David married Janice Brightman on October 7, 1956, in Erie, IL. David was a lifelong farmer in Garden Plain. He was a lifetime member and Elder of the Garden Plain Presbyterian Church. He also served as trustee for the Garden Plain Cemetery, was on the Garden Plain School board, and a member of the Garden Plain Township board. As a member of the Whiteside County Farm Bureau, he served as president for 12 years. David was also a member of Whiteside FS serving as vice-president and a member of the committee for Gold Star FS after its merger and a member of the advisory committee. David was an avid Illini fan and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Janice; their three children, Mark (Sue) Stone of Colona, IL; Rev. Rod (Marsae) Stone of Pinehurst, NC; and Carol (Ken) Stralow of Morrison, IL; four grandchildren, Christina Stone of Atlanta, GA; Hannah, David, and Sarah Stralow all of Morrison, IL.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Helen M. Stone.
