Obituary for Donald G. Houzenga
DONALD G. HOUZENGA, 74, of 506 8th Avenue, Sterling, IL, died Thursday, July 12, 2012 at Genesis Medical Center East, Davenport, IA. Don was born October 22, 1937 in Fulton, IL to Richard and Hilda (Eissens) Houzenga. He was educated in the Argo Fay and Thomson Grade Schools and attended Thomson High School in Thomson, IL. He married Charlotte R. Buikema on November 20, 1956 in Morrison, IL. Don engaged in farming in the rural Morrison and Sterling areas while also working at the former Northwestern Steel and Wire Company. He was a member of Amazing Grace of Sterling in Sterling, IL. Don was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed horses. He truly loved his children and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Charlotte; three daughters, Donna Rubright of Morrison, IL, Marlyss (Dave) Justice of Morrison, IL, and Diane (Bill) Boden of Sterling, IL; two sons, Marvin Houzenga of Morrison, IL and Dennis (Beth) Houzenga of Prophetstown, IL; eighteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; two sisters, Carol (Ray) Barsema of Fulton, IL and Lorraine (Don) Resel of Montpelier, IA; two brothers, Kenneth (Marj) Houzenga of Morrison, IL and Richard "Dick" (June) Houzenga of Chadwick, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Charles Houzenga; and one sister, Henrietta Houzenga.
