Obituary for Dorothy J. Carroll
DOROTHY J. CARROLL, 94, of Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna, IL, formerly of Thomson, IL, died Thursday, October 16, 2014, at Big Meadows Nursing Home. Dorothy was born July 17, 1920, in Clinton, IA, to Charles W. and Ellen M. (Melenday) Hogg. She was educated in the Clinton Grade Schools and was a 1937 graduate of Thomson High School in Thomson, IL. Dorothy married Robert E. Carroll on December 18, 1937, in Savanna, IL. He died January 6, 2002. Dorothy engaged in farming, along with her late husband, Robert, in the rural Thomson, IL, area. She was also employed by Carroll County Health Services as a home health aide. Dorothy was a member of the York Baptist Church in Thomson and served as a Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the Merton Chapter #356 - Order of the Eastern Star " Fulton, IL, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a 50 year member of Thomson Women"s Club, and charter member of the Carroll County Home and Community Education. Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Couch of Savanna, IL; one son, Larry (Carolyn) Carroll of Thomson, IL; seven grandchildren; three step grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jeanne (Melvin) Kissell of Moberly, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; one daughter and one son both in infancy; one granddaughter, Dawne Dykstra; and one sister, Georgia Munson.
