Obituary for Elaine Sikkema
ELAINE R. SIKKEMA, 84, of 1428 9th Avenue, Fulton, IL, died Tuesday, January 22, 2013, at her home. Elaine was born January 14, 1929, in Clinton, IA, to Jacob and Grace (Vogel) Balk. She was educated in the Fulton Christian Grade School and was a 1946 graduate of Fulton High School. She married Lawrence A. Sikkema on May 5, 1950, in Fulton. Elaine worked with her husband, Larry, in their store, Sikkema Appliance and TV in Fulton. She was a lifetime member of the Second Reformed Church in Fulton and active in church choir, Christian Endeavor, Coffee Break, and Reformed Church Women Ministries. She was also a member of the Harbor Crest Nursing Home Auxiliary, a Red Cross volunteer for over 25 years, and served as a Girl Scout leader. Elaine and Larry were named as Dutch Days Grand Marshalls. Her whole life centered on her family and the grandchildren who she adored. Survivors include her husband, Larry; one son, Doug (Alice) Sikkema of Chattanooga, TN; three grandchildren, Jordan Sikkema, Taryn (Ryan) Ball, and Kendra Sikkema; and one great granddaughter, Matalynn Ball. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and three brothers.
