Obituary for Elizabeth A. Dykema-Beswick
ELIZABETH A. "BETTY" DYKEMA-BESWICK, 88, of 15911 Timberlane Drive, Morrison, IL, died Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Four Seasons Living Center, Morrison, IL. Betty was born January 2, 1924 in Sterling, IL to Ellery and Leonora (Mathew) Jones. She was educated in the rural Whiteside County Grade Schools and was a 1941 graduate of Morrison High School. She attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, IA. Betty married Wilbur Dykema on September 28, 1947 in Morrison, IL. He died November 6, 1978. She then married Dewitt "Spud" Beswick on June 26, 1982 in Morrison, IL. Betty was a school teacher and taught in the Gridley and McIlrath Grade Schools of rural Whiteside County and also taught in the Morrison Grade Schools. She later was employed at the Morrison Community Day Care. Betty was a member of the Morrison United Methodist Church and the church"s United Methodist Women. She was a former member of the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison and had served as Sunday School and Vacation Bible School teacher. Betty was a board member for Clystic School and a member of the Whiteside County Farm Bureau. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, floral designing, golfing, square dancing, playing the organ and piano, and wintering in Arizona. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. Survivors include her husband, Dewitt "Spud; two daughters, Mary (John) Alumbaugh of Mahomet, IL and Judy (Jim) Jenkins of Bath, NY; two sons, Bill (Barbara) Dykema of Mechanicsville, VA and Doug (Denise) Dykema of Morrison, IL; two step daughters, Karen Howe of Arlington Heights, IL and Jane Wilson of Jamaica; two step sons, Kenneth (Gayle) Beswick of Erie, IL and Donald (Peg) Beswick of Morrison, IL; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; eleven step grandchildren; fifteen step great grandchildren; and one sister, Beverly (Larry) Haubrock of Tempe, AZ. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Wilbur; one granddaughter, Nicole Dykema; one sister, Barbara Jones; one brother, Robert Jones.
