Obituary for Ella Mae Mae Pruis
ELLA MAE "MAE" PRUIS, 90, of Pleasant View Nursing Home, Morrison, IL, died Monday, Sept. 5, 2011 at the nursing home. Mae was born April 12, 1921, in Morrison, IL, to Rank R. and Minnie (Fossen) Buikema. She was educated in the rural Whiteside County grade schools and later attended cosmetology school and received a beautician"s license. Mae married James Pruis on February 27, 1948. He passed away on April 18, 1992. She was co-owner along with her sister, Betty Hey, of the Betty-Mae Beauty Shop in Morrison. She also farmed with her late husband in the Morrison and Coleta areas, was a school bus driver for R.C. Smith Transportation in Morrison, and worked as a dietary aid at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, IL. She retired in 1986. Mae was a member of Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison, and also a member of the Sterling YWCA, where she was known as one of the "Y" gals. Mae enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, crafts and playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include one daughter: Linda (William) Pettenger of Sterling, IL; one son, John L. "J.P." Pruis of Patterson, LA; three grandchildren, Michelle (Dennis) Betts, Paul Cruz, and Jared J. Pettenger; ten great grandchildren, Emilio Gonzalez, Isaiah Cruz, Isabella Betts, Thaison Somsri-Betts, Thailer Somsri-Betts, Caen Colson, Atreyu Cruz, Aza Cruz, Bryson Cruz and Brodee Cruz; one sister, Mrs. Janet Tichler of Morrison, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband, James; three sisters, Dorothy June Richmond, Betty J. Hey, Stella G. Buikema; two brothers, John H. and Renzie J. Buikema.
