Obituary for Elwyn D. Vogel
ELWYN D. VOGEL, 68, of 816 17th Street, Fulton, IL died Friday, November 18, 2011 at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, IA. Elwyn was born November 30, 1942 in Sterling, IL to Harry and Jennetta W. (Schaver) Vogel. He was educated in the Rock Falls grade schools and was a 1960 graduate of Rock Falls High School in Rock Falls, IL. He attended Sauk Valley Community College in Dixon, IL. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War. Elwyn married Donna R. Hunsberger on June 26, 1964 in Sterling, IL. He was first employed by the former A.C. Nielsen Company in Clinton, IA. He later co-owned and operated, along with his wife, Donna, Outdoor Fabrics, Awnings, and More in Fulton, IL from 1989 until his death. Elwyn was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church in Fulton where he served as a deacon. He was a member and past president of the Fulton Kiwanis Club. Elwyn was also a member of the Fulton American Legion Post #402, the Clinton Riverboat Rustlers Square Dance Club, River City Travelin" Squares Square Dancing Camping Group and the Cousins Subs Euchre Group. Survivors include his wife, Donna; four daughters, Katrina (John) Ruchotzke of Morrison, IL, Kerry (Allen) Daugherty of Slater, IA, Kim (Chuck) Carr of Fulton, IL, and Krystal Rowson of Clinton, IA; eight grandchildren, Ashley, Jacob, and Jarrett Ruchotzke, Sierra Foley, Kyle and Katie Carr, Matthew and Deanna Rowson; and one sister, Janice (Robert) Geerts of Milledgeville, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Tiffany Carr, and one brother, Allyn Vogel.
