Obituary for Eugene A. Geno Poel
EUGENE A. "GENO" POEL, 64, of 603 9th Avenue, Fulton, IL, died Monday, November 8, 2010, in his home. Gene was born on August 13, 1946, in Morrison, IL, to Allen and Dorothy (Buikema) Poel. He was educated in the Albany Grade School and graduated from Fulton High School in 1964. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving with SETAF from January 1966 to January 1968 during the Vietnam War. He married Linda Ashpole Kahler on September 18, 2009 in Fulton. Gene was employed by E.I. DuPont Company for 35 years; 20 years at the Clinton, IA plant and 15 years at the Fayetteville, NC plant. He retired in 2003. He was a member of Second Reformed Church in Fulton, the Fulton American Legion Post #402, and the Whiteside County Farm Bureau. He was a long-time regular blood donor. Gene was known as a "car guy" having owned 22 Corvettes since 1968. He was a member of the National Corvette Museum and enjoyed entering his "65 Vette in car shows. He also enjoyed yard work and collecting and refinishing antique oak furniture. Survivors include his wife, Linda; one sister, Marilyn (Arnold) Huizenga of Fulton, IL; two nieces, Jane (Jerry) Lewis and Kim (Paul) Mehring; four nephews, Gary (Dawn) Huizenga, Tom Huizenga, Matthew (Sheila) Huizenga, and Craig (Jennifer) Bush. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Carol Jean Bush.
