Obituary for F. Harold Groh
F. HAROLD GROH, 93, of 1118 " 15th Avenue, Fulton, IL, died Thursday, February 9, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton, IA. Harold was born on February 3, 1919, in Albany, IL, to Frederick and Pearl (Jordan) Groh. He was educated in the rural Whiteside County grade schools and completed a home study course of the DeVry Institute of Technology in radio and television repair. He married Clara VenHuizen on September 9, 1939 in Clinton, IA. She died on June 7, 1999. Harold was first engaged in farming in the Fulton area, and worked in the construction of Lock & Dam #13. He also worked for J.T. Cullen Company in Fulton, IL. Later he owned and operated Groh TV Sales and Repair in Fulton, and also was an insurance broker. Most recently he was employed by International Paper Company and Ralston Purina Company, both in Clinton, IA, retiring in 1981. Harold was a member of Second Reformed Church in Fulton. He enjoyed woodworking and constructed crosses for public and private uses. Survivors include one son, Leon Groh of Fulton, IL; one daughter-in-law, Karen Groh of Clinton, IA; three grandchildren, David (Lisa) Groh, Laura (Bill) Eads and Lisa (Mark) Peska; two step grandchildren, Craig (Lisa) Abbott, Russell Abbott; ten great grandchildren; nine great great grandchildren; several step great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara; one son, Larry Groh; one daughter-in-law, Donna Groh; one great great grandchild; one step grandchild; three sisters, Irene, Betty and Virginia; two brothers, Robert and one in infancy.
