Obituary for F. Marie Burkhardt
F. MARIE BURKHARDT, 96, of Clinton, IA, formerly of Fulton, IL, died Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at Bickford of Clinton.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at Fulton Presbyterian Church with Rev. Catherine Martin officiating. A visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. The Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Interment will be at Fulton Township Cemetery. A memorial has been established to Fulton Presbyterian Church.
Marie was born December 1, 1926, in Davenport, OK, to John F. and Alma (Gentry) Roberts. She was educated in the Davenport grade schools and Davenport High School in Davenport, OK. She married William E. Burkhardt on February 3, 1945, in Oklahoma City, OK. He died September 11, 1990. Marie was employed by the former Fidelity Life Insurance Company in Fulton for 8 years and later by Drives, Inc. in Fulton for 11 years. She was a member of the Fulton Presbyterian Church. She served as an elder and was on the church’s Calling and Membership Committee. Marie was also a member of the Fulton American Legion Auxiliary and was a volunteer at the Riverbend Senior Center in Fulton. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She loved baking cookies and helping out at the church with activities. Marie had a servant’s heart and enjoyed taking care of others when she could. She was always the first to travel across the country to help family whenever needed.
Survivors include one daughter, Frieda McLuckie of Clinton, IA; one son, William E. “Bill” (Pat) Burkhardt of Tulsa, OK; eight grandchildren, Jordan (Carolyn) Near, Justin (Tara) Near, Joshua (Kimberly) Near, Michael (Lonna) Burkhardt, Amanda (Burkhardt) Deckard, Jim (Kimberlie) McLuckie, Don (Tobie) McLuckie and Debra VanOtterloo; nineteen great-grandchildren & one on the way; two great-great-grandchildren, Isaac and Lilli McLuckie; one sister-in-law, Lois Roberts of Stroud, OK.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William; one daughter, Phyllis Near; one granddaughter, Angela McLuckie; five sisters, Eva Jo Roberts in infancy, Pauline “Polly (Martin) Mahan, Margie (J.B.) Rains, Rose (Don) Rains and Mary (Bill) Arbaugh; four brothers, Lee (Lola) Roberts, George “Buster” (Ruby) Roberts, Ervin Roberts and Charles (Pearl) Roberts.
