Obituary for Francis B. Faley
Francis "Frank" B. Faley, 91, of the Alverno Health Care Facility, Clinton, IA, formerly of Albany, IL, died at the Alverno on Monday, May 23, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.Born in Amboy, Illinois on October 30, 1924, Francis "Frank" Faley was the oldest of two sons of John and Clara (Meister) Faley. He graduated from Amboy High School in 1942 and reported for active duty in the U.S. Army in 1943. Following two Army Specialized Training Program terms at Kalamazoo College in Michigan, he was assigned to the Timberwolf Infantry Division.Frank was proud of the role he played in World War II and in serving as a Timberwolf. It was the Timberwolf Infantry Division that defeated German combat forces in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany before closing the gap between the American and Soviet armies. With those victories accomplished, the Timberwolves were en route to the Pacific Ocean to invade Japan when WWII ended.Frank returned to Illinois with an honorable discharge and seven military medals, including the Bronze Star. He married Maxine McCracken in Ottawa, Illinois and together they raised eight children.Frank managed several A&P stores in the area until he was hired by Commonwealth Edison. At Edison, he held numerous positions including his final responsibility when he was appointed the Quad Cities Nuclear Power Stations first office supervisor. He held that position and formed the foundational responsibilities of that role until his retirement.In his lifetime, Franks outgoing personality allowed him to know many individuals in his community. Among his many community roles, Frank was an alderman in Amboy, he was awarded the Albany Citizen of the Year, he served as President of the Albany Lions Club and he held the role of the Albany-Garden Plains bi-centennial commissioner. He loved to write and wrote two books for his family: one detailing his years as a Timberwolf and a novel depicting the realism of war.Frank was preceded in death by his parents, by Maxine, his loving wife, by his brother John and his daughter Susan. He is survived by his children Tom Faley, Ann (Mark) Rex, Jolene (Gordon) Schaver, Tim (Kelley) Faley, Terry (Vanessa) Faley, Lisa (Jon) Balk and close family friend, Larry Forbes. In addition, he is survived by 20 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Visitation and a celebration of Franks life will be held 5:00 " 7:00 PM on Friday, May 27, 2016 at Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home in Fulton.The family invites all family and friends to participate in a funeral Mass at St. Patricks Church in Albany at 10:30 AM Saturday, May 28, 2016.Interment will be at Lusk Memorial Cemetery in Albany, IL.
