Obituary for Ida Mae Balk
IDA MAE BALK, 92, of Resthave Nursing Home, Morrison, IL, formerly of Fulton, IL, died Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at the nursing home. Ida Mae was born July 5, 1921, in Fulton, IL, to Ray and Reka (Vogel) Dykhuizen. She was educated in the Fulton, IL grade schools and was a graduate of Fulton High School. She married Paul Balk on January 18, 1941 in Clinton, IA. He died July 1, 1985. Ida Mae, along with her late husband Paul, owned and operated Balk Construction Company. She also was employed a W.G. Block Company in Clinton, IA. Her most recent employment was with First Trust and Savings Bank in Albany, IL, as a bookkeeper. Ida Mae was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Fulton, IL, where she was active in the church"s Rebecca and Dorcas Societies. She had served on the Board of Directors at Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton. Survivors include one daughter, Paula (Michael) Welsh of Morrison, IL; nine grandchildren, Jody (William) Coutros, Crystal (Mark) Baron, Jill (Tim) Vegter, Rick (Jennifer) Westendorf, Scott (Katie) Preston, Jeffrey (Monica) Balk, Angela Balk, Elizabeth (Shawn) Coffey, and Kimberly (Adam) Bruggenwirth; twenty great grandchildren; one sister, Thelma Van Vuren of Fulton, IL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; one son, Brian Balk; three children, in infancy; one grandson, James Balk.
