Obituary for Irene M. Kaufman
IRENE M. KAUFMAN, 79, of Thomson, IL, died Monday, January 11, 2021, at Rock River Hospice and Home in Sterling, IL.
A private graveside service will be held at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison with Ken Renkes officiating. A private family visitation will be held at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Memorials to Rock River Hospice & Home and Dementia Society of America have been established.
Irene was born April 22, 1941, in Clinton, IA, to Joseph and Leona (Williams) Barsema and was raised by George and Pauline Dykema. She was educated in the rural Whiteside County grade schools and attended Morrison High School. Irene married Lyle Kaufman on June 20, 1958, in Morrison. He died April 5, 1995. Irene was a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with family and friends and shopping.
Survivors include one son, Richard (Janet) Kaufman of Thomson, IL; five grandchildren, Cara (Ryan) Painter, Chad (Lauren Fahey) Kaufman, Ryan (Sarah Powell) Kaufman, Kayla (Andrew) Russell, Brandon (Shaelynn Williams) Kaufman; five great grandchildren, Adley and Morgan Painter; Brayden Powell; Luke Kaufman; and Easton Russell; two step sisters, Mrs. Carol Uphoff of Morrison and Helen (Richard) Parks of Camanche, IA; and one step brother, Steve (Barb) Dykema of Kewanee, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyle; one son, Dan Kaufman; one great grandson, Ethan Painter; one step brother, Art Dykema; and one step brother-in-law, Robert Uphoff.
