Obituary for Janet C. Kooi
JANET C. KOOI, 89, of Fulton, IL, died Wednesday, July 1, 2015, at Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton, IL. Janet was born October 11, 1925, in Fulton, IL, to Lawrence L. and Dena (Bielema) Green. She was a graduate of Morrison High School in Morrison, IL and Central College in Pella, IA. Janet married Harold E. Kooi on June 11, 1948, in Spring Valley Reformed Church in rural Fulton, IL. He died June 8, 2003. Janet was a teacher and taught in Andrew, IA and in schools in Whiteside County. She retired from River Bend Schools, where she was a junior high teacher. Janet was a longtime member of Spring Valley Reformed Church, taught Sunday School for many years, was active in women"s ministries, and Ladies Aid Society. She was an enthusiastic member of the Gideon"s Women"s Auxiliary. Janet also corrected Bible Study lessons for Crossroad Bible Institute for 10 years. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, baking, and camping. She especially enjoyed time with her family. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Kathy Bielema of Fulton, IL and one son, Mark (Audrey) Kooi of Morrison IL; five grandchildren, Leah (Scott) Wallace, Scott (Amanda) Bielema, Matthew (Kathryn) Kooi, David (Kat) Kooi, and Nathan Kooi; four great-grandchildren, Addison Bielema, Jacob Bielema, Isaac Kooi and Ian Kooi; two sisters, Rhea Bechtel of Fulton, IL and Connie (Burton) Wiersema of Waupun, WI; one sister-in-law, Ruth Green of Holland, MI. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; one son-in-law, Terry Bielema; one brother, Dr. Lawrence Green; two brothers-in-law, Glenn Bechtel and Edward Kooi.
