Obituary for Jean E. Valk
JEAN E. VALK, 89, of Resthave Home, Morrison, IL, died Saturday, January 19, 2013, at the nursing home. Jean was born November 9, 1923, in Morrison, IL, to Peter L. and Alice (Logemeyer) Temple. She was educated in the rural Whiteside County and Morrison grade schools and graduated from Morrison High School. Jean married Harold E. Geerts on September 4, 1945, in Morrison. He died January 7, 1970. She later married Dick F. Valk on October 6, 1973, in Morrison. He died June 19, 1988. Jean first worked at Lawton"s Dairy in Sterling, IL, then the Morrison Community Hospital in the Dietary Department. She volunteered at Resthave Nursing Home, the Morrison Chapter of Golden Meals, the Morrison Historical Society, and was a Whiteside County Election Judge. Jean was a member of the Emmanuel Reformed Church in Morrison, where she participated in the Mission Circle and the Church Choir. She was a former member of the Bethel Reformed Church in Sterling. Jean had also been a member of the Morrison Hospital Auxiliary. Survivors include three daughters, Beth (Sherm) Ashby of Thomson, IL; Lois (Randy) Kuehl of Morrison, IL and Denise Kuehl of Morrison, IL; one step daughter, Kathy (Stan) Merema of Fulton, IL; two step sons; thirteen grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; twelve step great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and one brother, Warren (Loretta) Temple of Morrison, IL. She was preceded in death by both husbands, Harold and Dick; one son, Neil Geerts; one granddaughter, Dawn Duggan; and one sister, Phyllis Huizenga.
