JOHN SALVERDA, 89, of Fulton, IL, died Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at The Alverno in Clinton, IA.
A private family graveside service will be held at Fulton Township Cemetery in Fulton, IL. There will be no visitation. The Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A memorial to First Christian Reformed Church in Fulton, IL has been established.
John was born June 16, 1934, in Makkem, Holland, Netherlands to Johannes and Nieske (Bijma) Salverda. He furthered his education in the carpentry trade. He married Dorothy Medenblik on May 8, 1964, in Fulton, IL. She died September 13, 2018. John initially worked for a farmer in Canada and later as a carpenter. After moving to the United States, he became a general contractor. He was a dedicated member of First Christian Reformed Church and served as a deacon. John had a passion for sports, especially hockey. He also enjoyed gardening and maintaining his lawn. In their younger days, John and his wife Dorothy enjoyed traveling together.
Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Edith (Dale) Schaver and Evelyn Medenblik both of Fulton, IL; two brothers-in-law, Lambert Medenblik of Rock Hill, SC and William (Mary) Medenblik of Fulton, IL; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; four sisters-in-law, Iola Newendyke, Jean Medenblik, Hilda Medenblik and Martha Medenblik; four brothers-in-law, Charles, Garrett, and Ronald Medenblik and Elwyn Newendyke.
