LARRY W. TESSENDORF, 72, of Chadwick, IL, died Sunday, September 15, 2024 at Rock River Hospice and Home in Sterling, IL.
Cremation rites will be accorded. A private family funeral service will be held, with Mr. Ken Renkes officiating. The Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. A memorial has been established.
Larry was born March 22, 1952 in Freeport, IL to Howard and Genevieve (Brown) Tessendorf. He grew up in Pearl City, IL and attended Pearl City schools. He received his GED at Highland Community College in Freeport. On April 17, 1980 he married Cynthia “Cindy” S. Massey in Morrison, IL. Larry wore many career hats during his working years. While living out west, he worked as a truck driver for a nation-wide furniture moving company. After moving back to Illinois, he worked in production and maintenance at Elkay Manufacturing in Lanark, IL. He also worked as a machine operator at Drives Inc. in Fulton, IL. He recently worked in maintenance at Raynor Garage Doors in Dixon, IL until his retirement. Larry was a friend of nature, enjoying his fish pond in the back yard, bird watching, and the outdoor beauty when camping and fishing. He took great pride in his yard and kept it meticulously trimmed. He enjoyed tinkering and repairing everything and anything, and was fondly known as “Mr. Fix It”. He especially cherished time with his family. It filled his heart with so much joy to spend time with his granddaughters, and he did his best to attend as many of their concert and sporting events as possible.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Cynthia, of Chadwick, IL; two sons, John (Teri Turner) Tessendorf of Marengo, IL and Kevin Tessendorf of Sterling, IL; grandchildren, Abigail (Kyle) Betourne, Sydni Tessendorf and Scarlett Tessendorf; brothers, James (Lucille) Tessendorf of Pearl City, IL, Michael (Tammie) Tessendorf of Port Byron, IL and Terry Tessendorf of Missouri; a sister-in-law, Midge Tessendorf of Freeport, IL.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Edward “Butch” Tessendorf.
