Obituary for Lyle S. Naftzger
LYLE S. NAFTZGER, 82, of Prairie Hills at Clinton, Clinton, IA formerly of Albany, IL died Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Genesis Medical Center West, Davenport, IA. Lyle was born June 13, 1929 in Newton Township, IL to Jesse D. and Mabel O. (Shook) Naftzger. He was educated in the rural Whiteside County grade schools and was a 1947 graduate of Erie High School in Erie, IL. He attended the University of Illinois in Champaign, IL. Lyle was a veteran of the U.S. Army, proudly serving during the Korean War, in the 49th Field Artillery Battalion - 8th Army. He married Mary Elizabeth "Liz" DeNolf on February 27, 1960 in Albany, IL. She died September 23, 2010. Lyle was engaged in farming in the Albany/Erie area for 19 years. In addition to farming, he also was employed by John Deere, sold Mormons Feed, worked for Nitrin Fertilizer in Cordova, IL, and worked for 22 years at Ralston Purina in Clinton, IA. He then sold Cornelius Seed Corn and Dairyland Seed Corn. Lyle was a 60 year member of Albany United Methodist Church and served on the board of trustees. He was a member of the Albany American Legion Hanson/Kennedy Post #1079, a member of the Ralston Purina Fire Brigade, and a member of the Grain Millers Union where he served as Union Vice President. He also served as a Democrat precinct committeeman. He enjoyed country music and in his early years took Arthur Murray Dance lessons. Survivors include one daughter, Glenda (Ken) Jansma of Fulton, IL; one granddaughter, Gwenyth Naftzger; two sisters, Beulah Milnes and Leola Naftzger both of Morrison, IL; and one brother, Wes (Judy) Naftzger of Albany, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Liz; one daughter, Gwendolyn Sue Naftzger; one sister, Lois Foster; three brothers, Warren, Harlan, and Russell Naftzger.
