Obituary for Margaret Pessman
MARGARET PESSMAN, 80, of Fulton, IL, died Thursday, December 31, 2020, at Rock River Hospice & Home in Sterling, IL.
Her funeral service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, January 16, 2021, at Emmanuel Reformed Church in Morrison, IL, with Rev. Luke Schouten, pastor of Emmanuel Reformed Church, officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Friday, January 15, 2021, at Emmanuel Reformed Church. Following COVID 19 regulations, social distancing and face masks will be required. The Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Interment will be at Fulton Township Cemetery in Fulton, IL. Memorials have been established to Rock River Hospice & Home and MercyOne Auxiliary Scholarship Fund.
Margaret was born November 4, 1940, in Clinton, IA, to Peter C. and Esther M. (Geerts) Smith. She was educated in the Garden Plain Grade School and was a 1958 graduate of Fulton High School. Margaret married Gene A. Pessman on November 28, 1958, in Fulton, IL. She was first employed as a bank teller at Fulton State Bank. She later was employed as the church secretary at Second Reformed Church in Fulton for 25 years. Margaret was a former member of Second Reformed Church where she volunteered in Willing Workers. She was currently attending Emmanuel Reformed Church in Morrison. She was a member of the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary in Clinton, IA for 26 ½ years, with 5388 hours of volunteering, including many hours in the hospital gift shop. She served as president of the Auxiliary and was also named 2014 Volunteer of the Year. Margaret was a 4-H leader for the Garden Plain Ripsnorters while her children were members. Margaret enjoyed being outdoors especially life on the farm. She was an avid reader. She enjoyed attending her children’s and grandchildren’s activities. She also enjoyed spending time with her husband of 62 years especially going out for dinner and ice cream.
Survivors include her husband, Gene; one daughter, Joy (Don) Tegeler of Morrison, IL; one son, Craig Pessman of Champaign, IL; four grandchildren, Jacob Tegeler, Ben Tegeler, Kyle (Payton Roling) McLuckie, and Nathan McLuckie; one sister, Mrs. Phyllis Heun of Fulton, IL; and one brother, Vernon (Linda) Smith of Clinton, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Becky McLuckie; and one brother, Robert Smith.
