Obituary for Martin Jay Dykema
MARTIN JAY DYKEMA, 51, of 11506 Garden Plain Road, Morrison, IL, died Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at a rural farm in Morrison, IL. Martin was born April 6, 1961, in Morrison, IL, to Don and Ruth (Feldt) Dykema. He attended Union Grove and Prairie Center Grade Schools and graduated from Morrison High School in 1979. He later attended Sauk Valley Community College. He married Leanne K. Grater on October 4, 1981, in Morrison, IL. Martin was first employed by Shambaugh Construction and later for Harms Farms in Tampico, IL. He enjoyed farming and began farming with his grandfather, father, father-in-law and recently with his sons. He was also a Golden Harvest Seed Corn Dealer. Martin was a member of the Morrison United Methodist Church where he was active in the Staff Parish Relations Committee and was a member of the Adminstrative Council. He was a member of the Morrison Sportsmen Club and played fast pitch softball for the Morrison Merchants and the Thomson Merchants in Thomson, IL. He was very active in all of his children"s hobbies and activities, such as horseback riding, wrestling, football, camping, boating, and four-wheeling. Marty really enjoyed barbequing and hosted several BBQ cookoff contests for friends and family. Survivors include his wife, Leanne; two daughters, Erin (Josh) James and Kate (Cody) Goodwin both of Morrison, IL; two sons, Nolan Dykema and Thomas Dykema both of Morrison, IL; four grandchildren, Jaelynn and Joslynn James; Kaylie and Isaac Goodwin; his parents, Don and Ruth Dykema of Morrison, IL; one sister, Julie (Jim) Brown of Morrison, IL; and one brother, Jerry Dykema of Beaumont, TX. He was preceded in death by one sister, Lynn Johnson; his maternal grandparents, Frank and Tena Feldt; his paternal grandparents, Jay and Henrietta Dykema and Ida Mae Dykema.
