Obituary for Mary Lou Smith

MARY LOU SMITH, 82, of Prophetstown, IL, died Sunday, November 11, 2012, at Illini Restorative Care, Silvis, IL. Mary Lou was born August 27, 1930, in Moline, IL, to Harry R. and Lena M. (Griffin) Whipple. She was educated in the East Moline grade schools and graduated from East Moline High School in East Moline, IL. She married Robert A. Smith on March 24, 1951, in East Moline, IL. He died August 4, 2008. Mary Lou was a homemaker and farmed alongside her husband, Bob, in the rural Prophetstown, IL area. She was a member of the Leon United Methodist Church in Prophetstown, IL. She volunteered at Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Prophetstown. Mary Lou enjoyed caring for her great-grandchildren and spending time with her family. Survivors include three daughters, Sandra Smith of Moline, IL; Mrs. Susan Odquist of Bronston, KY; and Bonnie (Steve) Smith of Tampico, IL; one son, George (Dorothy) Smith of Albany, NY; four grandchildren, Nicole (Gabe) Olinger, Angela (Adam) Bollman, Ryan (Charlene) Smith, and Tony Smith; three step grandchildren, Kelly Williams, Michael Odquist, and Charles (Cindy) Durham; five great-grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Carol (Raymond) McDonald of Geneseo, IL; three brothers, Richard (Nina) Whipple of New Hampshire; Harvey (Shirley) Whipple of Green Rock, IL; and Ronnie (Cora) Whipple of Silvis, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Steven Smith in infancy; one sister, Minnie Holman; five brothers, Leroy Whipple, Roger Whipple, Harry Whipple, Frannie Whipple, and John Whipple in infancy.
