Obituary for Millie Thicksten
MILLIE THICKSTEN, 79, of Prophetstown, IL died Saturday, March 3, 2012 at her home. Millie was born January 29, 1933 in Sterling, IL to William L. and Floy (Polley) Milby. She was a 1951 graduate of Rock Falls High School and received her cosmetology license from the Sterling Beauty School. Millie married Roger W. Thicksten on September 28, 1952 in Sterling, IL. Along with her husband, Roger, she owned and operated E & R Super Valu in Prophetstown and she also ran Parkview Beauty Salon from her home. Millie and Roger were house parents when they resided in Advent Christian Village in Dowling Park, Florida. Millie was a member of Advent Christian Church in Prophetstown where she taught Sunday School for many years. She liked to embroider and had made quilts for all her grandchildren. Millie loved animals and music. Survivors include her husband, Roger; two daughters, Robin (Steve) Ruberg of Princeton, NC and Joanie (Leo) Stewart of Prophetstown, IL; one son, Steve (Jan) Thicksten of Aurora, IL; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy (Denny) Hutton of Tampico, IL and Joyce (Earl, Jr.) Devers of Rock Falls, IL; and one brother, Elmer (Leta) Milby of Rock Falls, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Geneva Coble and one brother, Larry Milby in infancy.
