Obituary for Miriam C. Gruenwald
MIRIAM CARTER GRUENWALD, 93, of Prophets Riverview Good Samaritan Center, Prophetstown, IL, formerly of Bettendorf, IA and Sun City West, AZ, died Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, IL. Miriam was born April 12, 1921, in Minneapolis, MN, to George G. and Marie (Carter) Johnson. She graduated from Grinnell College"Grinnell, IA"in 1943. In August of 1943 she married James F. Gruenwald in Minneapolis. He died on June 7, 1999. Miriam was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was a lifelong member of the PEO in Iowa and Arizona. She enjoyed assisting others, especially helping mentally and physically challenged youth. She looked forward to working with horses, staying in touch with long-time friends, knitting, crocheting, needlework and singing"especially Christmas carols. Miriam had a strong faith all of her life. She took great pride in her grandkids and great grandkids. Survivors include one daughter, Susan (Larry) Janssen of Prophetstown, IL; one son, James F. "Jay" (Debbie) Gruenwald, Jr. of Williamsburg, IA; five grandchildren, Laura (Anastasios) Kozaitis, Heather (John) Berry, Adrienne (Brian) Gernand, Luke (Jenny) Sandberg and Emily (Tim Kenyon) Gruenwald; six great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Ruth Ridling. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; one daughter, Carol Ann Coin; one sister, Janice Luick.
