Obituary for Muriel Pat Wagenecht
MURIEL "PAT" WAGENECHT, 86, of Morrison, IL, died Saturday, June 8, 2013, in Morrison, IL, surrounded by her family. Pat was born December 1, 1926, in Clinton, IA, to Arthur A. and Hazel A. (McCune) James. She was educated in the James Grade School of rural Whiteside County and graduated from Morrison High School in 1944. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL. Pat married Edward C. Wagenecht on June 5, 1949, in Morrison, IL. They were married for 50 years before his passing on April 26, 2000. Pat was an elementary school teacher in Whiteside County and Champaign County for over 38 years, until she retired in 1990. She was passionate about making a difference in the lives of her students. Many of her students will remember "Wagenecht Dollars" and the many special outings they were able to attend with their play money to places such as the movie theater and roller skating rink. Pat was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Morrison, where she was active in the Ladies Aid, Dorcas Societies, and the Chancel Guild. She taught Sunday School and was a longtime coordinator of the kitchen committee and funeral luncheons. Pat was a past member of the Morrison Wa-Tan-Ye Club and was coordinator for the Red Cross blood drives for many years. She enjoyed flower gardening, yardwork, playing cards, reading, and the impromptu visits of family and friends. Survivors include one daughter, Kay (Roger) Smith of Morrison, IL; one son, David (Chris) Wagenecht of Morrison, IL; six grandchildren, Abbi Bush, Sarah Wagenecht, Patrick (Devyn) Wagenecht, Adam Smith, Leanne (Beau) Marinangeli, and Amanda Smith; one great-granddaughter, Katie Jo Bush; and one sister, Ardythe Rice of Morrison, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Edward; one sister, Carmen Dykema; and one brother, Robert James.
