Obituary for Raymond Damhoff
RAYMOND DAMHOFF, 88, of Fulton, IL, died Sunday, September 12, 2010, at the Alverno Health Care Facility in Clinton, IA. Ray was born October 8, 1921, in Garden Plain, IL, to George and Maggie (Naniga) Damhoff. He was educated in the Lockhart Grade School in rural Garden Plain. He later received his G.E.D. He married Evelyn J. Borgman on February 12, 1948 in Fulton, IL. Ray resided on the family farm in the rural Garden Plain area for 80 years. He started running the farm at the age of 16, raising cattle and hogs. Ray was also a real estate broker and auctioneer in the Fulton area. He was a member of Trinity Reformed Church where he served as an elder and deacon. He served as the Men"s League President and Treasurer and the Sunday School Superintendent. Ray also served as President of the Garden Plain School Board, a member of the Whiteside County Farm Bureau, Whiteside County Livestock Feeders Association, Whiteside County Board of Realtors and the Fulton Chamber of Commerce. He was an avid Cubs Fan, and a fan of Illini and Fulton Steamer basketball. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn, one daughter, Carol (Kurt) Stralow of Morrison, IL; three sons, Larry (Julie) Damhoff, Kenny (Patti) Damhoff, and Russ (Deborah) Damhoff, all of Fulton, IL; eleven grandchildren, Alesha, Laura, and Mike Stralow; Mark Damhoff, Amy (Tom) Klein; Jeff, Brian and Billy Damhoff; Dennis (Kelly) VanZuiden, Jeff (Ayla) VanZuiden, Brent (Michelle) VanZuiden; five great grandchildren; one brother, Don (Deanie) Damhoff of Morrison, IL; one sister-in-law, Kathryn Damhoff of Fulton, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bernard Damhoff; one great granddaughter, Angela VanZuiden.
