Obituary for Raymond M. Tegeler
RAYMOND M. TEGELER, 99, of Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Fulton, IL, died Thursday, May 29, 2014 at the nursing home. Raymond was born September 5, 1914, in Garden Plain Township, IL, to Martin and Winnie (Tervelt) Tegeler. He was educated in the Bunker Hill School of rural Whiteside County, IL. He married Mary E. Medema on February 27, 1941 in Fulton. Raymond was first employed by local farmers during his early years. He later worked at the Eclipse Lawn Mower Company in Prophetstown, IL, assembling parts for the war effort during WWII. He and his wife, Mary, owned and operated their own farm in rural Fenton, IL for over 64 years. He was a member of Newton Zion Reformed Church in Erie, IL, and had served as a Sunday school teacher. In his younger years Raymond enjoyed playing softball with his brothers on their own family team. He also enjoyed hunting, playing cards with friends, his wife"s fine cooking, and family gatherings. Survivors include his wife, Mary; four daughters, Nancy (Wayne) Huizenga of Fulton, Linda Rather of Fulton, Jan (Arnold) VanderEide of Fulton and Sally (Ray) Matyasse of Geneseo, IL; one son, Donald (Bonnie) Tegeler of Fulton, IL; fourteen grandchildren; one step-grandchild; twenty great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bernice Tegeler of Winnebago, NE and Pauline Wherry of Sterling, IL; one brother, Lawrence (Edna Mae) Tegeler of Fulton. He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Sarah Matyasse; three sisters, Corneilia "Kate" Ottens, Theresa VenHuizen, Ann Schaver; nine brothers, Kenneth, Henry, Maynard, John, Ben, Clarence, Louis, Marvin and LeRoy Tegeler.
