Obituary for Renyold Ren VanDerLeest
RENYOLD "REN" VANDERLEEST, 78, of 12451 Yorktown Road, Lyndon, IL, died Sunday, October 9, 2011 at CGH Medical Center, Sterling, IL. Ren was born June 2, 1933 in Fenton, IL, to John and Marion (Flynn) VanDerLeest. He was educated in the rural Carroll and Whiteside County grade schools and attended the Morrison High School in Morrison, IL. Ren was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict. He married Ruth Landheer on September 5, 1952 in Sterling, IL. Ren farmed in the Morrison and Lyndon areas from 1954 until his retirement in 1999. Following retirement, he was employed by the Illinois Department of Transportation as a snow plow driver. He also worked as a truck driver and farmed with his son, Roland. He was a member of St. Peter"s Lutheran Church in Morrison and a former member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Sterling, IL and held many different offices. Ren was a member of the Morrison American Legion Post #328, a lifetime member of Morrison VFW Post #8281, and a member of the Whiteside County Farm Bureau. His passion was farming, trucking, mowing, and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Ruth; three daughters, Renee (Scott) Temple of Morrison, Rhonda (Tracy) Jones of Sterling, Raeann (Russell) Roberts of Morrison; two sons, Roger (Deb) VanDerLeest of Morrison and Roland VanDerLeest of Lyndon; fourteen grandchildren, Kristin (Jeff) Huisenga, Justin (Tammy) Temple, Adam (Quinn) Temple, Jonathan (Megan) Mix, Samantha Mix, Bradley Sharp, Brandon Sharp, Breeann Sharp, Shannon Huizenga, Daniel (Aris) VanDerLeest, Kiley VanDerLeest, Matthew (Mandi) VanDerLeest, Nicholas VanDerLeest, and Austin VanDerLeest; fourteen great grandchildren; two expected great grandchildren; two brothers, Donald (Harriet) VanDerLeest of Morrison and Dale (Juanita) VanDerLeest of O"Fallon, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter-in-law, Debbie VanDerLeest; a granddaughter, Amanda Mix, and three brothers, Arnold, Norman, and Duane VanDerLeest.
