Obituary for Rita J. VanDeMark
RITA J. VANDEMARK, 95, of Sterling, IL, died Sunday, November 21, 2021, at Regency Care of Sterling, IL.
Her funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, November 27, 2021, at the Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home in Prophetstown, IL with Mr. Ken Renkes officiating. The visitation will precede the service starting at 11:00 AM until the start of the funeral. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Prophetstown. Memorials have been established to St. Jude and Happy Tails in Rock Falls, IL.
Rita was born April 6, 1926, to Monroe and Nettie (Wildman) Thompson. Rita attended Prophetstown Grade Schools and was a 1944 graduate of Prophetstown High School. She later attended Western Union School in Crawfordsville, IN. She married Allan M. VanDeMark on October 19, 1947, in Prophetstown. He died on May 9, 2014. Rita was employed by Green River in Amboy during the war where she made grenades. She later worked as a hairdresser at Marge’s Beauty Shop and Glady’s Beauty Shop in Prophetstown until opening her own home hair salon. Rita was a former member of the Prophetstown Methodist Church. She loved animals, especially dogs, and See’s Candies. Rita enjoyed crafting, playing BINGO and she enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs play baseball.
Survivors include four nieces, Susan (Jim) Weeks of Sterling, IL, Carol (Tim) Hillary of Winter WI, Rebecca Ecett of Center View, WI, and Linda (Eric) Jacobs of Burbank, CA; two nephews, Douglas (Lori) VanDeMark of Geneva, IL, and Tom (Cindy) Randall of Ventura, CA; several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Allan; two sisters, Marian (Leroy) Johnson and Betty (Edward) Stralow; one nephew, Randolf Stralow.
