Obituary for Robert D. Stone
ROBERT D. "BOB" STONE, 91, of 14831 Elk Road, Fulton, IL, died Tuesday, September 11, 2012, at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Morrison, IL. Bob was born January 15, 1921, in Garden Plain Township, to Clayton M. and Lepha F. (Murphy) Stone. He was educated in the Garden Plain Grade School and was a 1938 graduate of Erie High School in Erie, IL. He attended the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, IL. Bob was a veteran the U.S. Army Air Force and served during WWII. He married Dorothy M. Ege on March 22, 1942, in Garden Plain. He was first employed by Cy Breeden Supply and Construction Company in Garden Plain. He then served as Garden Plain Township Highway Commissioner and later worked for the Whiteside County Highway Department. Most recently he owned and operated Stone Excavating, Morrison, IL, until retiring in 1996. Bob was a member of the Garden Plain Presbyterian Church, the Albany American Legion " Hanson/Kennedy Post #1079, and the Natural Area Guardians of Whiteside County. Bob enjoyed camping and bird watching. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; one son, Dr. Bob (Marjorie) Stone of Plano, IL; two grandchildren, Meghan (Kyle) Dean and Jeffrey (Joni) Stone; three great grandchildren, Vivienne Dean, Jaden and Tyler Stone. He was preceded in death by one sister, Pauline Schuler.
