Obituary for Robert W. Ottens
ROBERT W. OTTENS, 85, of Resthave Home, Morrison, IL died Friday, June 8, 2012 at CGH Medical Center in Sterling, IL. Robert was born April 26, 1927 in Clinton, IA to William and Harriet (Tenboer) Ottens. He attended Morrison Schools and then went through Officers Training in Great Lakes Naval Base in Chicago. He later graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in accounting. Bob married Myra E. Schaut on April 26, 1952 in Mt. Carroll, IL. He was employed at General Electric for 37 years until his retirement. After retirement, he was the Mt. Pleasant Township assessor for many years and was one of the organizers for the volunteer AARP tax program for the elderly. Bob enjoyed fishing at Rockwood State Park. Annually, his family would go on a fishing trip to Canada. He participated on a GE bowling team and was a member of the Morrison Country Club where he enjoyed golfing for many years. Bob enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of Emmanuel Reformed Church in Morrison. He served on the Morrison School Board for many years and also on the Board of Directors for Resthave Nursing Home. Survivors include his wife, Myra; two daughters, Susan Ottens of Morrison, IL and Sandra (Tim) Bronn of Cambridge, WI; two sons, Sam (Bonny) Ottens of Shoreline, WA and Scott (Malia) Ottens of LaGrange, IL; three grandchildren, Sam and Eli Bronn and Lauren Ottens; two sisters, Marjorie Wilkens of Morrison, IL and Nancy Heun of Lynwood, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Sarah Ottens.
