Obituary for Roland A. Farrell
ROLAND A. FARRELL, 82, of Pleasant View Nursing Home, Morrison, IL, formerly of Prophetstown, IL, died Saturday, February 14, 2015, at the nursing home. Roland was born November 13, 1932, in Prophetstown, IL, to Raymond and Florence (Egert) Farrell. He was educated in the Prophetstown Grade School and was a graduate of Prophetstown High School. Roland married Kathryn L. "Kay" Tyler on December 28, 1952, in Prophetstown, IL. She died May 18, 2005. Roland was first engaged in farming in the rural Hillsdale, IL area. He then was employed by the former Herman Nelson Manufacturing in Morrison, IL. Most recently, he worked as a sales representative for Penberthy Manufacturing in Prophetstown, IL. Roland was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Prophetstown. He was a member of the Prophetstown Lions Club, Prophet Hills Country Club, and a charter member of the Morrison Kiwanis Club. He was also member and past president of the Morrison Athletic Boosters. Roland enjoyed golfing, following local athletic events, and was an active volunteer in many community and civic organizations. He served as coach and officer of the Morrison Little League. Roland helped organize and volunteered at the Prophetstown Food Pantry. Survivors include three sons, Mark (Theresa) Farrell of Morrison, IL; Mike (Vicky) Farrell of Port Byron, IL; and Matt (Karen) Farrell of St. Albans, WV; eight grandchildren, Brandon (Jessica) Farrell, Chad (Beth) Farrell, Jayme Farrell, Shaun Farrell, Ashley K. Farrell, Nicole Farrell, Kelly Farrell, and Ashley M. Farrell; ten great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruth Ross of Grand Detour, IL; Delores (Ron) Buck of Prophetstown, IL; and Donna (Chuck) Calderon of Prophetstown, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn "Kay" Farrell; two sisters, Lucille Dahlkie and Marjorie Wyckstandt; and one brother, Harry Farrell.
