Obituary for Roland "Rollie" Ebbers

ROLAND “ROLLIE” JAMES EBBERS, 87, of Morrison, IL, died Friday, March 10, 2023, at his home, surrounded by family.


His funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Emmanuel Church in Morrison, IL, with Rev. Luke Schouten, Pastor of Emmanuel Church officiating. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday, March 17, 2023, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home. Interment will be at Grove Hill Cemetery in Morrison. A memorial has been established to Emmanuel Church and the Whiteside County Honor Flight. If you have recently experienced any COVID 19 symptoms, please wear a mask in consideration of the family.


Rollie was born June 26, 1935, in Grand Rapids, MI, to Alva J. and Corra D. (DeYoung Nyhof) Ebbers. He was a 1953 graduate of Fulton High School in Fulton, IL. He served in the United States Army stationed in Korea during the Vietnam War. Rollie married Charlotte R. Damhoff on February 8, 1957, in Fulton, IL. She died July 30, 2011. Rollie started his employment as a farm hand, in high school, in rural Fulton, IL. He then worked with his father and brother, David “Dick”, for A.J. Ebbers and Sons. He later started his own carpentry business called Ebbers Builders. He also owned and operated Ebbers Apartments. Rollie was a member of Emmanuel Church where he served on the consistory, was a member of the choir and was instrumental in the building of the Christ Center at the church. He also enjoyed singing in the “Voices of Praise” cantata. He was a member of the Morrison VFW and served on the board at Resthave Home during the renovation. Rollie was an avid woodworker. He enjoyed playing slow pitch softball, bowling, pool, cards and watching sports. He also enjoyed motorcycle rides and traveling with friends. He loved attending the activities of his grandchildren and spending time with his family and friends.


Survivors include one daughter; Linda (Hal) Snyder of Morrison, IL; one son, Timothy Ebbers of Rock Falls, IL; two grandchildren, Kelsey and Eric Snyder; two brothers, David “Dick” (Esther) Ebbers of Morrison, IL and Paul (Martha) Ebbers of Cobbs Creek, VA; many nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Charlotte.
