RUTH VOGEL, 100, of Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna, IL, died Tuesday, March12, 2024, at Big Meadows.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, March 18, 2024, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Scott Stephan, pastor at CrossView Church in Fulton. There will be a visitation prior to the service, starting a 10:00 AM. Interment will be at Fulton Township Cemetery. A memorial to the Fulton Food Pantry has been established.
Ruth was born September 25, 1923, in Fulton to Ben H. and Kate (Bielema) Norman. She attended the Cottonwood School in rural Whiteside County. On February 8, 1946, she married Geradus Vogel in Fulton. He died on February 23, 2006. Ruth farmed alongside her husband in rural Whiteside and Carroll Counties, retiring in 1983. She also took pride in being a homemaker and very much enjoyed the company of her grandchildren. Ruth was a member and very active with the Second Reformed Church (currently CrossView Church) in Fulton. She had served as the Sunday School Superintendent and teacher, was the RCYF youth group leader, member of the Willing Workers, member and past-president of Ladies Aid and was the Sunshine Choir director. When she wasn’t serving her church, she volunteered at the Fulton Food Pantry and delivered Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed gardening, doing puzzles, playing cards and playing the piano. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy (Wilson) Bull of DeWitt, IA; one son, Arnie (Pam) Vogel of Fulton; seven grandchildren, Sherri Bly, Keith Vogel, Jim (Tiffany) Bull, Paul Vogel, Marla (Jeremy) Wiersema, Andy Vogel, Ben (Elise) Vogel; great grandchildren, Brennen, Evan and Cassidy Bly; Mia and Wilson Bull; Rebecca (Tony) Heinitz, Mackinzie and Hannah Wiersema; Brooklyn, Braxton and Barron Vogel; two great great grandsons, Hudson and Branson Heinitz.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Geradus; two sons, Ken Vogel and one in infancy; two sisters, Kathryn Gray and Alice Balk; two brothers, Hie B. and Ralph Norman.
