Obituary for Shirley B. Brown-Decker
SHIRLEY B. BROWN-DECKER, 83, of Mercy Living Center North, Clinton, IA; formerly of Fulton, IL, died Sunday, February 22, 2015 at Mercy Living Center. Shirley was born September 1, 1931, in Moline, IL, to Rev. Hilding and Leola (Bennell) Peterson. She was educated in the East Moline grade schools and was a graduate of United Township High School in East Moline, IL. She attended Zion College in Zion, IL. She married Rev. James Brown on June 18, 1950 in East Moline. He died July 20, 1989. She later married Melvin L. Decker on January 4, 1991 in Fulton. Shirley was employed as a secretary by the former Fidelity Life Insurance Co. in Fulton. She then worked as a clerk for the Former Moline Public Hospital. She was also a Tupperware sales manager. Shirley was a member of the Assembly of God Church of Fulton, and also attended York Baptist Church in Thomson, IL. She enjoyed music, camping and traveling, crocheting, cooking and baking. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, Melvin; two daughters, Christine (Ron) Sour of Thomson, IL and Connie (Gary) Morris of Clinton, IA; one son, David (Janet) Brown of Silvis, IL; two step daughters, Sally (Marty) Mussmann of Clinton, IA and Charlene (Todd) Klavenga of Fulton; one step son, Rodney (Coral) Decker of Albany, IL; eleven grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary (Jeffrey) Abbot of Davenport, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Rev. James Brown; five brothers, Jim Peterson, Rev. David Peterson, Elmer Peterson and two in infancy.
