Obituary for Stanley Borgman
STANLEY BORGMAN, 87, of The Alverno Health Care Center, Clinton, IA, formerly of Fulton, IL, died Friday, January 24, 2014, at The Alverno. Stan was born April 12, 1926, in Pella, IA, to Worp E. and Wilhimenia (Van Rheenen) Borgman. He was educated in the rural Pella, IA grade schools and was a 1943 graduate of Pella High School. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Central Christian College in Pella, IA in 1949 and Master of Arts degree from Drake University in Des Moines, IA in 1955. Stan was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. He married Jeanne Borgman on August 19, 1948, in Englewood, IL. Stan was employed as teacher and basketball coach at Hedrick High School in Hedrick, IA, from 1949 to 1951, Pella High School in Pella, IA, from 1951 to 1958, and Fulton High School in Fulton, IL, from 1958 until retiring in 1985. Stan"s coaching career spanned 33 years; 2 years at Hedrick, IA with 30 wins and 12 losses; 7 years at Pella, IA with 104 wins and 55 losses and 24 years at Fulton, IL with 394 wins and 215 losses. A career record of 528 wins and 282 losses. His 500th win occurred January 11, 1980, against Erie with Fulton winning 61 to 53. Stan was elected to the Illinois Basketball Hall of Fame in 1980. After retirement, he owned and operated Borgman Painting Company until 2008. Stan was a member of the Second Reformed Church in Fulton where he served as an elder, Sunday School teacher, and choir member. He was also a member of the Fulton Kiwanis Club and member and past president of Riverbend Educational Foundation. Stan also served on the Board of Directors of Camp Manitoqua in Frankfort, IL. Survivors include his wife, Jeanne; one daughter, Jayne (Rick) Rempes of Beavercreek, OH; three sons, James (Jean) Borgman of Owatonna, MN; John Borgman of Fulton, IL; and David (Kim) Borgman of Clinton, IA; a daughter-in-law, ReNee Borgman of Fulton, IL; seven grandchildren, Joshua (Lindsey) Smith, Claire (Brandon) Livingood, Peter Borgman, Devin, Demi, and Isabel Borgman, and Madison Borgman; two great-grandchildren, Braxton and Elliana Smith; three brothers, Howard Borgman of Marysville, MI; Glenn (Shirley) Borgman of Pella, IA; and Dr. Robert (Ann) Borgman of Clear Lake, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Joyce Barker.
