Obituary for Suzan R. Miller
SUZAN R. "SUE" MILLER, 79, of Davenport, IA died Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, IA. Sue was born August 23, 1932 in Des Moines, IA to Russell W. and Freda (Steege) Ritz. She was a 1950 graduate of East High School, Waterloo, IA. She attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, IA and graduated from Iowa State Teacher"s College in Cedar Falls, IA. Sue married Norman L. "Bud" Miller on August 13, 1955 in Guttenberg, IA. He died February 14, 2005. After graduating from college, Sue taught home economics at Guttenberg High School in Guttenberg, IA until she married. She returned to teaching after raising her family, working as a teacher"s aide at Jefferson Elementary School in Davenport, IA for 26 years. Following her retirement and with an unending energy to mentor children, she continued to volunteer at the school for 10 more years. Sue was a member of St. John"s United Methodist Church in Davenport, IA and most recently was involved with the church"s Archive Committee. Sue had many talents and interests over the years, including sewing, needlework, knitting, playing the piano, and raising African violets. In her later years she enjoyed working in her yard and growing flowers. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include four daughters, Cindy Schultz of Albany, IL, Lisa (James Faulk) Miller of Boulder, CO, Margaret (Chris Robinson) Miller of Minneapolis, MN, and Nora (Pete Murray) Miller-Murray of Moline, IL; one son, Robert (Deborah) Miller of Urbandale, IA; sixteen grandchildren, Eric (Alisa) Schultz, Myriah (Matt) German, Levi Schultz, Brook Stockton, Grace (Randy Wright) Paikos, Avery and Samuel Worland, Austin, Aaron, Hannah, and Amanda Murray, Emily, Isaac and Theo Miller, Kaily and John Robinson; five great grandchildren, Maveric, Keenan, and Braylon Schultz; Jacob and Nathan German; one brother, Phil (Ley) Ritz of Scroggins, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Bud.
