Obituary for Edward L. Kelley
EDWARD L. KELLEY, 88, of Lyndon, IL, died Wednesday, December 30, 2020 in Prophetstown, IL.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday January 9, 2021 the Pleasant View Cemetery (Darlow Cemetery) in Hutchinson, KS, with Pastor Jeff Arnold of the South Hutchinson Christian Church officiating. The Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home in Prophetstown, IL is in charge of arrangements. Memorials to the Prophetstown Fire Protection District and the Salvation Army have been established.

Ed was born December 13, 1932 in Hutchinson, KS, to Lyle D. and Floy E. (Taylor) Kelley. He was a graduate of Holyrood High School in Holyrood, KS and received a bachelor’s degree from the Fort Hayes State University in Fort Hayes, KS. He went on to receive a master’s degree from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS. On November 17, 1970 he married Sharon Kay Pierce in Lyndon, IL. Ed was drafted into the U.S Army and spent two years in Germany during the Korean War. While in grade school, he worked for his granddad milking cows, feeding chickens, and driving the tractor. In high school he worked as a butcher at a locker plant. After high school, he drilled water wells and was a roustabout in the oil field for City Services. While in college, he pumped oil wells for Derby Oil Company. After college he worked as a speech pathologist in St. John, KS, and also worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture measuring farm land. Then he moved to Atchison, KS, where he worked as a speech pathologist and was a brakeman on the railroad during the summer months. He then moved to Iowa for one year where he worked as a speech pathologist. He later moved to Lyndon, IL where he worked as a speech pathologist and measured farm land for the Department of Agriculture. After his retirement in 1986, he continued working part time as a speech pathologist. Ed was a member of the Masonic Lodge in St. John, KS, the Prophetstown American Legion Post #522, the VFW in St. John, KS and the American Speech and Hearing Association. Ed loved to travel. He was able to visit all fifty states, seven continents, and eighty foreign countries. He was an author of materials to teach English that are used all over the world. Ideal School Supply published his materials. As an author he met various educational ministers of education departments around the world. He once saw one of his publications in a movie. Ed also enjoyed gardening and fishing in his free time.

Survivors include his wife Sharon; one granddaughter, Taylor (Josh DeCrane) Kelley of Lyndon.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Jana Kelley; two sons, Scott Kelley and David Kelley in infancy; one sister, Patricia Kelley; one brother, James Kelley.
