Obituary for Raymond K. Van Zuiden
RAYMOND K. VAN ZUIDEN, 78, of 734 Milnes Drive, Morrison, IL, died Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Morrison, IL. Ray was born November 5, 1934, in Morrison, IL, to Fred J. and Stella (VanOosten) Van Zuiden. He was educated in the Fenton and Morrison, IL grade schools and was a graduate of Morrison High School. He married Virginia Schuler on June 10, 1957 in Morrison. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War. Ray was first employed as a carpenter for the former Sykes & Akker Contractors in Morrison, IL. He then worked as an agent and later became a partner in the Maurits & Jost Insurance Agency for 30 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Morrison and served as church treasurer and also on the session and properties committee. He was a member of the Morrison Lions Club and had served as secretary and president. He founded the Morrison United Way, was a member of the Morrison Chamber of Commerce and served on the Resthave Nursing Home Board of Directors. Ray enjoyed woodworking and building houses. Survivors include his wife, Virginia; three daughters, Cindy (Doug) LeMoine of Dubuque, IA, Shari (Kevin) Kuehl of Morrison, IL and Becky (Rick) Riojas of Dixon, IL; fourteen grandchildren, Hannah LeMoine; Corrie Keegan, Alec Keegan, Collin Keegan; Stacie (Derek) Brown, Kim (Nathan Shipley) Kuehl, Michael (Kassi) Kuehl, Katie Kuehl, Lindsay Kuehl; Brent (Heather) Toppert, Matt (Andrea) Toppert, Andrew (fianc"e Tori VanZuiden) Toppert; Tara (Jon) James, Aaron Riojas; sixteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Henrietta Johnson of Rockford, IL and Mrs. Margery Stichter of Rochelle, IL. He was preceded in death by one great grandson, Cayden Toppert; one sister, Genevieve Wiersema-Richmond; four brothers-in-law, Paul Wiersema, Frank Richmond, Edward Johnson, and William Stichter.
