Obituary for John W. Wierema
JOHN W. WIEREMA, 87, of Fulton, IL, died Sunday, February 18, 2018 at Genesis West Wing Place in DeWitt, IA.
** A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Fulton Township Cemetery for both John and Annalene.
Funeral services will be at 12:00 PM Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at the Fulton Presbyterian Church, officiated by Rev. Catherine Martin. A visitation will be held prior to the service starting at 11:00 AM. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service with interment in the Fulton Township Cemetery at a later date. The Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Fulton Presbyterian Church or Genesis Hospice.
John was born December 30, 1930 in Fulton, IL, to Clarence and Helen (Wulf) Wierema. He was educated in the Fulton Grade School and was a 1948 graduate of Fulton High School. Following graduation John enlisted in the U.S. Navy. On February 17, 1950 he married Annalene Haan in Charleston, SC. He was employed by DuPont in Clinton, IA for 28 years, retiring in 1993. John was a member of the Fulton Presbyterian Church where he served as a trustee. He was a member of the Fulton Lions Club and also a 60 year member of the Fulton American Legion Post #402, where he was a service officer. John enjoyed doing genealogy.
Survivors include his wife, Annalene; four daughters, Marsha Norman of Fulton, IL, Carol Schroeder of Sheridan, WY, Pamela Jackson of Spencer, IA and Lisa (Kelly) Bedusek of Greenfield, WI; four sons, Jeff (Connie) Wierema of Waukegan, IL, Mark (Anastasia) Wierema and Mike (Cindy) Wierema, both of Fulton, IL, and Dennis (Chris) Wierema of Clinton, IA; twenty grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; one brother, Robert (May) Wierema of Chico, CA.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, one in infancy and Janice Marie Wierema; one grandson, Matthew John Wierema; two sisters, Marian Boerema and Phyllis Bitler.
