Obituary for Donald L. Montgomery Sr.
DONALD L. MONTGOMERY SR., 85, of Fulton, IL died Sunday, September 9, 2012 at his home, surrounded by his family. Donald was born February 11, 1927 in East Moline, IL to Harry G. and Farrol L. (Thompson) Montgomery. He was educated in the East Moline grade schools and attended East Moline High School before entering the service. He served in the United States Navy during World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. Donald served in the Navy for 30 years, retiring in 1970 as Chief Petty Officer. After his retirement, he drove semis for various trucking companies. Donald was a member of the American Legion - Fulton Post #402. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, and gardening. He also enjoyed taking his family out for breakfast. Donald went on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2010. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; one daughter, Donna (John Voeglie) Montgomery of Fulton; one son, Donald E. (Kathy) Montgomery of Fulton; two grandchildren, Melissa (Tim) Wiebenga, Angela (Nicholas) Bielema; and four great grandchildren, Michael and Colin Wiebenga, Ruby and Lila Bielema.He was preceded in death by two sons, Michael G. and David L. Montgomery; one grandson, Donald Barsema; two sisters, June Brewer and Audrey Hammerlink; and one brother, Darrel Montgomery.
