Obituary for Elwood A. Woody Hummel
ELWOOD A. "WOODY" HUMMEL, 84, of Prophetstown, IL, died Friday, June 24, 2016 at his home. Woody was born July 25, 1931, in Prophetstown, to Robert J. and M. Louise (Martin) Hummel. He was educated in the Prophetstown grade schools and was a 1950 graduate of Prophetstown High School. He was a Navy veteran, serving during the Korean War. On August 19, 1956 Woody was united in marriage to Marilyn J. Kilberg in Prophetstown. She died August 10, 2002. He worked for Thermogas in Prophetstown, and then for Wolohan"s in Sterling, IL, until his retirement. Woody was a former member of the First Congregational Church in Prophetstown and was a current member of the First Congregational Church in Geneseo, IL. He was a member of the Prophetstown American Legion Post #522, the Prophetstown Masonic Lodge #293 and the Prophetstown Lions Club. He spent many hours promoting and raising money for the Whiteside County Honor Flight. Woody loved to do ceramics and he also enjoyed flower gardening. Survivors include one daughter, Marsha (Casey) Welfer of Geneseo, IL; two grandchildren, Danielle Nixon and Kinsey (Joe) Littel; one great granddaughter, Rory Nicole; three sisters, Vicki Lynn (William) Moore of St. Petersburg, FL, Sue Adams of Prophetstown, and Nann Johnson of Nashville, TN; two brothers, Wiley (Becky) Hummel of Geneseo, IL and Louis G. (Betty) Hummel of Prophetstown. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marilyn; two brothers, Robert W. and Richard L. Hummel.
