Obituary for Gertrude I. Venema
GERTRUDE I. VENEMA, 92, of Urbandale, IA, formerly of Fulton, IL, died Friday, July 8, 2016, at Urbandale Health Care Center in Urbandale, IA. Gert was born November 5, 1923, in Fulton, IL, to Joseph and Elsie (Borgman) Hook. She was educated in the Fulton Grade Schools and was a 1941 graduate of Fulton High School. Gert married Elmer Venema on April 19, 1945, and they had two children, Janet (Dr. George) York of Ft. Myers, FL and William (Kristi) Venema of Clive, IA. Additional survivors include four grandchildren, Steven (Cristen) Schipper, Jennifer (Christopher) Higgins; Becki (Javier) Venema-Plaza and Bradley (Cristal) Venema; eight great-grandchildren, Ava Schipper, Ross Vasquez; Kristina and Carmen Plaza; Braeden, Blake, Sydney and Sayler Venema; one sister, Helen (Harold) Smith of Fulton, IL; and one brother, Marvin Hook of Fulton, IL. Gert was employed by the former A.C. Nielson Company in Clinton, IA from 1965 until retirement in 1987. She was a member of Second Reformed Church in Fulton. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Gerald Hook and his wife, Marjorie; and a sister-in-law, Beulah Hook.
