Obituary for Gilbert Gib Van Dyke
GILBERT "GIB" VAN DYKE, 85, of Fulton, IL, died Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at his home. Gib was born September 22, 1926 in Clinton, IA to Jake and Grace (Temple) Van Dyke. He was educated in the rural Morrison, IL schools. He married Margaret L. Hager on October 30, 1968 in Clarkesville, Tennessee. She died April 22, 2009. Gib delivered milk and worked for Blue Bird Trucking in Fulton, IL in his early years. He then worked for Drives, Inc. in Fulton, IL and retired in 1988. He enjoyed camping, fishing, cookouts, and reading. He loved traveling with his wife, Margaret. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gib loved to take his family to J & D"s Steakhouse in Clinton, IA. Survivors include one daughter, Betty Remrey of Fulton, IL; one son, Allen Van Dyke of Washington; four stepsons, Ray Hager and Eddie (Barb) Hager both of Fulton, IL; Douglas Hager of Melrose, FL, and Michael Hager of Galesburg, IL; seventeen grandchildren; forty great grandchildren; twelve great great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Stuart of Atlantic, IA; and one brother, Harold (Gladys) Van Dyke of Fulton, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; two daughters, Sue Damhoff and Peggy Van Dyke; and one stepson, Roy Hager.
