Obituary for Hazel Elizabeth Dornbush
HAZEL ELIZABETH DORNBUSH, 92, of the Alverno Healthcare Facility in Clinton, IA, formerly of Fulton, IL, died Thursday, January 7, 2016 at the Alverno. Hazel was born May 27, 1923, in Jackson County, IA, to Herbert E. and Wilma (Ricker) Potter. She was raised and educated in the Iowa Soldiers Orphans Home " also known as Anne Wittenmeyer Home " in Davenport, IA. She married George J. "Shorty" Dornbush on December 15, 1944 in Clinton. He died October 24, 2000. Hazel was employed by the National Tea Company from 1942 to 1945, then the Albany Grade School from 1969 until 1986. She was a member of the Eagle Club Auxiliary in Clinton. Hazel was the recipient of the "Green Angel" Girl Scout Award. She was very crafty with paper, decorating "birthday doors" at Harbor Crest Nursing Home, Albany Grade School and the Whiteside County Health Dept. She enjoyed putting puzzles together and was an avid Bingo and cards player. She enjoyed dancing, so much so that she was dancing at her last birthday party. Survivors include one daughter, Virginia Dornbush of Fulton, IL; five sons, Charles (Cheri) Dornbush of Albany, IL, Richard (Nancy) Dornbush of Clinton, IA, Thomas (Carol) Dornbush of North Liberty, IA, Ronald Dornbush of Clinton, IA and Edward (Vicki) Dornbush of Athens, OH; nine grandchildren; one step grandchild; twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; two sisters, Mary Edith Potter and Betty Mogged; three brothers, Leonard, Raymond and Walter Potter.
